Mark Osterman is a museum administrator, researcher, technologist, and artist. He earned his B.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts, an M.A. from New York University, and a Doctor of Education from Florida International University, specializing in arts, literacy, and technology. Mr. Osterman's work encompasses drawing, sculpture, installation, digital collage, and painting,
Drawing inspiration from mass media culture and contemporary social issues, Mr. Osterman has honed his visual and conceptual vocabulary to create open-ended narratives that engage viewers. His work can be found in public and private collections, and has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions. Mr. Osterman has been awarded an artist residency with Oolite Arts, awarded a Visual Artist Fellowship Grant from the Anolic Foundation, an Artist Access Grant from Miami-Dade Department of Cultural Affairs, and an artist residency from Atlantic Center for the Arts.
Mark Osterman has presented his insights on technology in museums, as well as art educational theory and research studies, on both national and international platforms while extending his contributions to publications in books and journals. Mark has applied his expertise within the cultural sector, having worked with institutions such as Miami-Dade College, The Brooklyn Museum of Art, The Museum of Art and Design, The Wolfsonian-FIU, and Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. Mr. Osterman has served as a member of the Board of Directors for MCN (Museum Computers Network), a peer reviewer for the Journal of Museum Education, a National Program Committee Member for AAM, Chair-elect of AAM's EdCom network, and a member of AAM's Media and Technology network.
Currently positioned at the Lowe Art Museum, University of Miami as the Assistant Director for Technology and Engagement Mark spearheads strategic planning, technology initiatives, interpretive initiatives, program development, digital marketing, and evaluation and assessment. His work positions him at the intersection of art, engagement, and technology.
